Ankeny Will Bid Adieu to Summer
The So Long Summer Smash will be held this weekend in Ankeny's Hawkeye Park. The event will feature live music, concessions and more, including the 5K Sunset Run.
Ankeny residents will get a chance this weekend to celebrate the unofficial end of summer.
The city of Ankeny will host its annual at Hawkeye Park Saturday night. Residents will get a chance to spend time with one another while they enjoy live music from 6 – 9 p.m, said Ankeny Public Relations Director Deb Dyar.
Concessions will be available on the event grounds. Alcoholic beverages will be available. Those who are 21 years and older will be issued a wristband after presenting identification.

One of the highlighted events of this year’s Smash is the . The race will begin at 7 p.m.
This year’s route will take runners through Ankeny’s Hawkeye Park and Prairie Ridge Sports Complex. Awards will be handed out to the top male and female runners, Dyar said.

It’s not too late to register for the 5K. Participants have until tomorrow to register for a $25 fee. The fee becomes $30 should they register the day of the event.
Those wishing to participate should contact the Ankeny Parks and Recreation Department at 515-963-3571.
Residents who opt to enjoy the live music are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. No outside food or drink will be permitted.
