Tickets Still Available for Ankeny School Foundation WingDing Event

Proceeds from the Oct. 18 event will benefit all Ankeny schools, teachers and give scholarships to seniors. Both Hawks and Jaguars will be helped by the foundation hosting the event, organizers said.

From an Ankeny School District News Release

The Ankeny Community School District Foundation is holding its biennial WingDing fundraiser for community schools, teachers, and students on Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Pinnacle Club at Otter Creek.

Tickets for the WingDing event are $25 each or $250 for a table of 10 guests. Hors d’ouvres and silent auction run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The live auction begins at 7:30 p.m.

The WingDing fundraiser supports the Ankeny Community School District Foundation's mission to provide grants to Ankeny teachers and scholarships to high school seniors, according to the news release. In 2010, the foundation provided over $20,000 to various school projects.

“The WingDing is our major fundraiser for the Ankeny Community School District Foundation for the year and has been very successful in the past. We are the only community volunteer organization that serves all Ankeny public schools. The support the foundation receives from the Ankeny business community and from the people who attend the event makes the event successful and benefits the students in our schools. We are looking forward to this year’s event because what we raise is what we can give back through grants and scholarships,” said Mel Weatherwax, WingDing committee member.

So far, Denman & Company, Foundation Cornerstone Sponsors, Ankeny Hy-Vee and Julsdesign Inc. are among this year’s sponsors. Live auction items include a Blank Park Zoo experience, two tickets with dinner and limo to the musical Book of Mormon at the Des Moines Civic Center and tickets to various sporting events. More than 50 items will be available in the silent auction, according to the news release.

The WingDing alternates each year with the Foundation’s SwingDing golf event. Since 2000, these events have provided grants to teachers and student organizations totaling over $200,000. Graduating seniors have received 169 scholarships totaling $69,000.

The WingDing committee is still accepting donations for auction and corporate sponsorship. To purchase tickets, contact a board of director on the Ankeny Community School District Foundation, visit the group's page on the Ankeny Schools website or send an email to ankenyschoolfoundation@yahoo.com.
