Help Bring Public Art to Ankeny

Art For Ankeny is hosting a kickoff event on Thursday, May 9 to announce their intention to bring an original piece of public art to the Ankeny Market & Pavilion.

On Thursday, May 9, at 6:00 p.m. Art For Ankeny is hosting an informal kickoff event at Slash/Web Studios in Uptown Ankeny (315 SW Maple St.) The purpose of this event is to announce our intention to bring an original piece of public art to the Ankeny Market & Pavilion

Art For Ankeny was the creation of the 2012-2013 class of the Ankeny Leadership Institute. As part of that program, our group was tasked with creating a community service project that would improve quality of life for Ankeny residents.

We chose a public art project because we wanted to establish a cultural landmark for the city of Ankeny - one that reenforces our civic identity and attracts creative minds to our growing community.

We have already established a partnership with the Ankeny Market & Pavilion developers and they are very excited and supportive of our fundraising effort.

Our group has entered into talks with artist David Dahlquist to bring this instalation to fruition. If you're not familiar with Mr. Dahlquist's name, you might be familiar with his work. He is the artist who designed the High Trestle Trail Bridge (titled "From Here To There") between Marion and Woodward.

Since the Ankeny Market & Pavilion will serve as the trailhead for the High Trestle Trail, our group felt it made narrative sense for Mr. Dahlquist to be consulted. He will be on hand this Thursday to discuss his vision for the project.

We will also be hosting a raffle during the event where participants can win prizes ranging from I-Cubs tickets to a weekend stay at the Ankeny Courtyard by Marriott. Raffle tickets are available for $5 a piece or five for $15.

All proceeds from the raffle will go toward the instalation. Attendees can also pledge a tax-deductible donation to the project as well.

Art For Ankeny is looking for dedicated individuals who value the cultivation of art for volunteer opportunities in the near future. We encourage you to attend our kickoff event to learn more about how you can join our organization help bring significant cultural change to Ankeny!
