What does pain mean to me?
Pain is an indicator of dysfunction in the body and leads to compensatory patterns which lead to more dysfunction.
Pain is something that has become a part of our lives. From the abuse we put on our bodies through work, exercise, and day to day living, most of us have pain at some time if not most of the time. The problem is that we have become so used to pain that we neglect to acknowledge the fact that pain is a very important signal sent to our brain. Pain tells the brain that something is not right and that there is tissue damage being done. What pain tells us today is that we need to take an aspirin or brace up our knee so we can continue with our busy lives and not let pain stop us. This may be okay for a period of time, but it is not the best idea. When you do these things you mask the same response that was designed to protect you. So even though you may not feel the pain, you are continuing to damage the tissue and making the injury worse. Over time this will get worse and worse until you end up with unbearable pain and seek out treatment or something worse happens like a herniated disc, torn ACL, broken bone, etc. These things occur as the body will continue to compensate to allow you to function at your highest level possible. Pretty soon these compensatory patterns give out as they are not designed to do that workload.
At Optimal Health we look at the body from 3 main areas: the brain, the muscles, and the joints. We take this unique approach to care as we feel that most health care professionals look at only 1 aspect, some 2, but rarely all 3. We can locate muscles that the brain is no longer able to communicate with properly and restore that communication, we can find and fix muscle adhesions, trigger points, and knots, as well as restore proper joint function (which takes more than just a manipulation in my opinion).
So if you have been "living" with your pain or before you reach for that aspirin, please call our office at (515) 964-9966 and set up a FREE consult so we can help you determine your cause of pain and the quickest route to fix it so you don't end up in a cast, crutches, or surgery! I can guarantee you that just because the pain has gone away now, the problem is not fixed!
