Chemical Spill Sends Six to Hospital

Several people required medical attention following an early-morning hazardous chemical spill at Dhorn Transfer in Ankeny.

An early morning hazardous chemical spill resulted in six people seeking medical treatment at an area hospital after being exposed to the chemicals. Eight other individuals were encouraged to seek medical review.

The accident occurred at Dhorn Transfer in Ankeny around 12 a.m., this morning when a 250-gallon tote filled with sodium hydroxide was ruptured. The Ankeny fire and police department were dispatched to the scene at approximately 3:30 a.m.

The Des Moines fire department hazardous materials team was called to the scene to assist in containing the spill. The spill has been contained and poses no public threat to anyone in the area.
