Chick-fil-A in Ankeny a Hit with Some; Others, Not So Much

One Ankeny city council member took to Twitter Monday to let us know Chick-fil-A was coming to town, and the news most definitely took off.

Social media was abuzz this week with the news that Ankeny is getting its own Chick-fil-A, a popular fast food chain that specializes in chicken sandwiches, wraps and salads.

For the most part, people on Ankeny Patch's Facebook page seemed pretty excited about the idea:

Allison Feldhacker: Yes! This so makes my day!

Aimee Dietiker Sosa: Yippee!

Colleen Hunter: MMMM! Good for you - LOVE our chic fil a!

Tonya Bormann Walker (via Twitter): We could be in trouble with this news!

However, there were some people who seemed less than thrilled. Their main beef? The proposed location of the restaurant (which is slated to go up at 2410 S. E. Delaware Ave., east of the Walmart and south of the IHOP restaurant, according to the Des Moines Register) and the company's known conservative stance on same-sex marriage.

Cheri Sells: Great, a chain restaurant with unhealthy food that is blatantly discriminatory. Awesome!

Joanne Gara: What I'd really love is some more independently owned restaurants. Enough chains already.

Meg Williams Schon: We need more options on the southwest side. Jethros & 34's are our only options. Hoping with the new hyvee coming more dining options will come. Agree about Taco Bell & a red robin would be good.

Mary Bradish: booooooo prejudice

The 4,791 square-foot building will have a drive through and be similar in size to the IHOP, according to plans submitted to the city.

There is no word yet on a proposed opening date.

What's your take? Are you thrilled or not so much? Tell us in the comments.
