City Of Ankeny: City Of Ankeny Hires New Assistant City Manager

The City of Ankeny is pleased to announce Michael Schrock will be the new assistant city manager beginning Nov. 1, 2021. As assistant city manager, Schrock will assist City Manager David Jones in daily operation of the City by performing highly responsible and complex management and administrative duties. In addition, he will directly supervise assigned program areas and will be responsible for policy formulation and implementation.

“Mike will be an excellent leader for the City of Ankeny. His extensive experience in working for communities of contrasting sizes, growth, and economic status give him professional experiences that will benefit the City,” said Ankeny City Manager David Jones.

Schrock is currently the city manager for the City of Oskaloosa where he has served in this role for 12 years. In 2018, he was named the City Manager of the Year by the Iowa City Managers Association. Schrock started his municipal career in 2002 in Surprise, Arizona where he served in multiple positions including management & budget director, interim director of public works and assistant to the city manager. Surprise was one of Arizona’s fastest growing cities during the time he worked there. He has a master’s degree in Public Administration from University of Arizona and a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University.

“Ankeny is a wonderful community and the city is a high performing organization. I am looking forward to joining the leadership team and working with our departments to continue that success well into the future,” said Schrock.

The City conducted a nationwide search for the assistant city manager over the last few months. Schrock will succeed Paul Moritz who is retiring Oct. 8, after serving as assistant city manager for the last eight years, and working a total of 16 years at the City of Ankeny.
