Ankeny Chamber of Commerce held a public forum for 3 candidates.
Many good questions were asked about their views on the future for Ankeny. Only one candidate however clearly demonstrated his concern for property tax payers in Ankeny. Jeff Wright focused on making public safety his top priority. He was not in favor of the storm water fee which in reality is a tax by other means. Property taxes are typically a tax deduction on state and federal income taxes but not fees. A 3rd fire station was an issue and sparked concerns for Ankeny's continued growth to from 90,000 to 120,000 in 20 years. Current local school board concerns for building an 11th elementary school reflect this fast paced growth in population and property taxes. Local election is next Tuesday November 5th, don't miss it or you will be paying through the nose if the wrong candidate wins.
