City of Ankeny, School District Thanked For Help With Trooper Funeral
Members of the Iowa State Patrol and the Iowa Department of Public Safety presented the city of Ankeny and the Ankeny school district with plaques of appreciation for their help with the funeral of Trooper Mark Toney.

Members of the Iowa State Patrol and the Iowa Department of Public Safety took a moment Monday night to thank the city of Ankeny for its help in honoring the life of their comrade, Mark Toney.
Toney, a state trooper, died in a single-vehicle crash on Sept. 20. His funeral was held at in Ankeny on Sept. 24.
Commissioner Larry Noble of the Iowa Department of Public Safety and Col. Patrick Hoye of the Iowa State Patrol presented a plaque of appreciation to the city of Ankeny at Monday’s council meeting.

It did the same for the Ankeny Community School district, reported Sara Sleyster of the Des Moines Register.
“We wanted to take a moment to thank you,” Noble said at the council meeting. “When dealing with something like the death of Trooper Toney, you need someone to stand by you and help – (the city of Ankeny) did just that and we can’t thank you enough.”

Noble, a former state legislator from Ankeny, and Hoye presented the plaque to members of the Ankeny police and fire departments.
In the article by the Register, Hoye told school district officials their help was a great comfort to Toney’s family.
“When you’re trying to cope with those types of situations you really rely on community,” Hoye said.
