Communication Conference at DMACC Will Promote Building Relationships

Conference will be held on the Ankeny campus Sept. 23-24.

The 47th Annual Iowa Communication Association (ICA) Conference will be held at the Conference Center in Building 7 on the Ankeny Campus on September 23 and 24.  The theme is “We All Need Somebody – Relationships Matter.” 

Judy Vogel, DMACC Speech Communication Professor and current ICA president, will open the convention at 12:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23.   Bryan Burkhardt, Director of the Electronic Crime Institute at DMACC, will be the keynote speaker.  His address is titled “Using Technology Wisely to Build Personal and Professional Relationships.” 

At the ICA Awards Banquet on Friday evening, the ICA Citation Award will be presented to Kim Powell of Luther College for her on-going commitment and dedication to the organization and the advancement of speech education.

Other award recipients include Jim Tredway of DMACC for the Outstanding Adjunct Teacher Award, Elizabeth Duncan of Iowa Western Community College for the Outstanding New Teacher Award and Samantha Turnquist of Buena Visgta University for the Frank Westphal Top Student Paper Award.

The public is welcome to attend.  Attendees are encouraged to pre-register at www.iowacomm.org. Walk-in registrations are accepted.  First-time attendees do not pay conference registration fees.  Advance reservations are needed for the banquet and may be made by emailing Executive Secretary, Susan Cantine-Maxson at scantine@cloud.edu before September 18.
