Commuters, Dump the Pump and Ride the Bus for Free Courtesy of DART

Commuters in Des Moines metro can try out public transit for free on Thursday, June 20.

From Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority:

Commuters in Des Moines metro can try out public transit for free on Thursday, June 20, as part of the eighth annual National Dump the Pump Day.

The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) is offering free rides on all of its express routes that day, including routes 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 98 and 99. Express routes are geared toward residents with some of the longest commutes within the metro area, operating to and from downtown Des Moines and the suburbs during weekday morning and evening commute times.

Free-ride coupons are available online at www.ridedart.com/news/dumpthepump.cfm. Other DART services are excluded from this offer.

Americans spend more money on transportation, on average, than on any other household expense except housing itself, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Dump the Pump Day was started in 2006 by the American Public Transportation Association to draw attention to the money that commuters can save by taking advantage of public transit, driving less often and spending less money at the gas pump.
