KCCI-TV: Fatal Crash Reported on I-35 North of Ankeny

A serious crash has slowed traffic on Interstate 35 near the Ankeny First Street exit.

Officials said the multi-vehicle crash happened in the southbound lanes of the interstate near the First Street exit about 4 p.m.

At the beginning of its 6 p.m. newscast, KCCI reported that one person was struck by a vehicle while walking across the interstate near a disabled vehicle. The station attributed the information to Iowa State Patrol troopers.

The Iowa DOT said area impacted is from exit 92: 1st Street to exit 96: County Road F22, 1 mile north of Ankeny. Traffic is being funneled into one lane in the crash area.

Traffic is backing up quickly in the area, so avoid I-35 if possible during the PM commute. Expect delays, the DOT said.
