DART announces Try Transit Week--October 4-10
Free rides and more in Des Moines area.
DES MOINES, IOWA—Greater Des Moines residents can ride free on DART Local, Express, Flex and On Call Services during Try Transit Week, Sunday, Oct. 4 – Saturday, Oct. 10.
“Try Transit Week is packed with fun, convenient events for residents to try public transportation for free and help reach the goal of 5 million rides on DART this year,” said DART Marketing Director Kirstin Baer-Harding. “We want to show Greater Des Moines the many ways to use DART and how easy it is to ride with the online and mobile tools available to our riders.”
The annual promotion highlights service improvements and DART’s new real-time technologies, including MyDART Tools, the RideTime mobile app and Google Maps.

Events are planned Monday through Friday of Try Transit Week:
• Monday, Oct. 5 – Kickoff at DART Central Station (6 a.m. – 6 p.m.)
• Tuesday, Oct. 6 – Coffee with DART along the D-Line (7:30 – 9:30 a.m.)
• Wednesday, Oct. 7 – Walk with DART: Healthiest State Initiative (11:45 a.m. at Cowles Commons)
• Thursday, Oct. 8 – Try Transit Tailgate: Ankeny (3:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the Mercy North Park & Ride)
• Friday, Oct. 9 – Happy Hour on Route 60 (3:30 – 6 p.m.)
Throughout the week, DART will be at Park & Ride locations in Altoona, Johnston, Ankeny and West Des Moines to help residents become familiar with DART and talk about its new real-time tools.
