East First Street Interchange At I-35 In Ankeny To Close Wednesday, May 27

A project to reconstruct the interchange at East First Street and Interstate 35 (exit 92) in Ankeny into a diverging diamond interchange requires closing the interchange and East First Street between Southeast Delaware Avenue and Southeast Creekview Drive beginning on Wednesday, May 27, until early November, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes construction office.

Construction crews will be removing all the exiting pavement, grading the roadbed, paving new lanes on East First Street, paving new ramps, and installing new signals, street lights, and signage. I-35 traffic wanting access to East First Street will be detoured to the Northeast 36th Street interchange (exit 94). Traffic on East First Street wanting to access to I-35 will be detoured to U.S. 69/North Ankeny Boulevard, Northeast 36th Street, and then I-35.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
