Alive & Well in Ankeny

The Alive & Well in Ankeny Wellness Expo will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at First Family Church, 317 S.E. Magazine Road in Ankeny. Mark Block of Ankeny will share his story surviving a car wreck, suffering a spinal cord injury and enduring months of rehabilitation to regain mobility to become an avid endurance athlete. Block completed the 2011 Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa as a member of the Adaptive Sports Iowa RAGBRAI team.

There will also be more than 20 local businesses, informative breakout sessions and demonstrations. A healthy lunch will be available for a freewill offering.

Breakouts will include information on improving nutrition for better health and weight loss, how to go from couch potato to fit and fierce, and the benefits of chiropractic care for kids.

Live demonstrations will feature martial arts, bike and shoe buying tips, cooking healthy meals, body composition testing and hands-on fun for kids.

A vendor fair will allow guests to sample healthy foods and ask questions about products and services available to help them get fit and healthy at any ability level or stage of life.
