Ankeny in Action: 2012 Townhall Meeting

A panel of community leaders includign a medical doctor, treatment professional, first responder from the Ankeny Fire Department, college student, and high school administrator will discuss the issues of synthetics, prescription drugs and high-risk drinking and the impact in the community. Parent Mike Rozga also will describe the real-life tragedy of synthetic drug use on his family.

Other topics the panel will discuss include.

- Drugs marketed as Bath Salts and Incense are proving deadly and are being sold legally in the community.

- The leading causes of death for 15-to 24-year olds are car crashes, homicides and suicides; alcohol is the leading factor in all 3. Plus, alternate absorption routes are increasing the risk.

- Prescription drugs are the drug of choice among 12-13 year olds. 4.5 million kids report they’ve abused prescription drugs.

The entire Ankeny community is invited to attend this event that will highlight the dangers of synthetic drug use. Audience members are encouraged to submit questions to panelists at the event.

Drawings will be held for prizes, including Prom tickets and/or gift cards to a variety of Ankeny businesses, restaurants, salons, and entertainment.
