The Ankeny Area Historical Society will be holding an open house on Sunday, May 5, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at their two museums located at 301 SW Third Street.
Stop in and see our many displays including a new quilt display case made by Fred's Woodshop with money donated in memory of Cheryl Hintzche. The Des Moines Ordnance Plant display tells the story of the building of the plant, its workers and the effect it had on central Iowa. Come learn how many familes were displaced from their farms with as little as 48 hours notice so the plant could be built. How 35 train cars filled with cartridges were shipped out daily. Also, as part of the display, listen to interviews of some of the people that worked at the plant. The store display shows what a general store was like, along with photos of early stores in Uptown. You will find these displays and other artifacts that bring this area's past to life in our century-old 2-story farmhouse and barn.
