The Ankeny Area Historical Society will be holding its first monthly open house on April 1, 2:00 p.m. - 4 p.m. at their two museums located at 301 SW Third St.Come see our two new displays. The Des Moines Ordnance Plant Display tells the story of the building of the plant, its workers and the effect it had on central Iowa. Come learn how many families were displaced from their farms with as little as 48 hours notice so the plant could be built. How 35 train cars filled with cartridges were shipped out daily. Also, as part of the display, listen to interviews of some of the people that worked at the plant. Also, new this year is our store display. This display shows what a country store was like, along with photos of early stores in Uptown. You will find these displays and others displays and artifacts that bring the area's past to life in our century-old 2-story farmhouse and barn.
