Stormwater Management Best Practices

A tour of stormwater best management practices is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 11 from 6-7:30 p.m. The tour will begin at Summerbrook Park, located on SE Delaware Avenue with parking located at the north end of the park near the Ankeny United Church of Christ, 602 SE Delaware Avenue. The tour will begin at the corner of SE 8th and Delaware by the porous asphalt trail.

Environmental Engineer Amy Bryant will lead the tour and demonstrate how stream bank restoration, bioretention cells, porous asphalt and native or prairie plants can improve water quality and manage surface water runoff and how similar features can be incorporated into public and private landscaping. The park tour will be followed by a driving tour that will take participants to a number of Ankeny locations that have incorporated stormwater features into their landscaping. The tour is free and open to the public, with reservations encouraged. Transportation will be provided.

This event is organized by the Ankeny Stormwater Stakeholder's Group, organized in 2005 as part of the City's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.
