The Youth Stroke Foundation is hosting a Stroke Awareness Walk Aug. 27 at the High Trestle Trail in Ankeny. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. next to the Ankeny Fire Station, 120 N.W. Ash Dr. The walk will begin at 9 a.m., and the trail will be open until noon. The cost to register is $10.
The Youth Stroke Foundation was founded in 2010 by Brian Puza — a 17-year stroke survivor with the mission of helping other stroke survivors live a quality life. This event will benefit the stroke survivors staying in Des Moines hospitals. Puza wants to create a mentoring program that will encourage survivors to share their stories and give back to the community by encouraging others.
