Fire Department Responds to Fire This Morning at Ankeny Home

The owner of the home tried to extinguish the blaze himself, officials told one local television station, but was unable to.

An Ankeny homeowner was taken to the hospital this morning after trying to extinguish a fire in his house.

According to KCCI Channel 8, the Ankeny Fire Department responded to 317 S.W. Elm St. at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning after receiving a call for a fire inside the house.

Fire department officials told the television station the homeowner tried to extinguish the blaze, but was unable to. Officials believe the fire started in the kitchen, but the exact cause is not known, the article said.

The homeowner was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, according to KCCI.
