Get Rid of Your Junk at This Weekend's Ankeny Cleanup Days

The event will be held May 18-19 and will have two locations set up for residents needing to get rid of items.

If you are looking to do some spring cleaning, now is the perfect time.

The Ankeny Rotary Club in conjunction with the City of Ankeny is sponsoring this year’s Ankeny Cleanup Days the weekend of May 18-19.

Two cleanup sites will be open on Saturday, May 17 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., and on Sunday, May 18 from noon – 4 p.m. The located at 211 S.E. Lorenz Dr., will accept trees and branches only, while the Prairie Ridge Family Aquatic Center located at 1220 N.W. Prairie Ridge Dr. will accept all other debris.

Rotary Club volunteers will be on hand to assist in unloading unwanted materials and debris from vehicles.

The program is open to Ankeny residents living within the corporate city limits. Participants will be asked for proof of residency. Trucks larger than a pickup are prohibited from participating. The following list of materials and debris will not be accepted for disposal with this program:

Antifreeze – Oil – Asphalt – Paint – Tree Stumps – Yard Debris - Pesticides
Refrigerators – Freezers - Dehumidifiers – Air Conditioners – Ovens/Stoves
Microwave Ovens - Clothes Dryers & Washers – Furnaces – Batteries
Water Heaters – Television Sets – Computer Monitors – Propane Tanks - Dishwashers

Residents disposing of trees and branches at the maintenance facility are asked to have the cut end of their branches stacked at the end of their vehicles for easy removal. Acceptable tree trunks and branches shall be no larger than 8” in diameter and no smaller than one inch in diameter.

Disposal of up to five residential passenger or truck tires without rims will be accepted. All other tires which includes semi, tractor, scrap, farm or solid tires will not be accepted.
