Hawkettes Advance In State Tournament

After knocking off top-ranked Bettendorf (42-1) in the state tournament, the Hawkettes softball team (34-7) will advance to play Burlington (33-5) in the second round on Thursday, July 21, at 1 pm. 

The game will be played on Diamond 1 at Harland Rogers Sports Complex at 1628 Nelson Ave., Fort Dodge, Iowa.  Tickets will be available at the gate.

The Des Moines Register reports Aly Cappaert and Erica Kirgan smashed third inning homers Tuesday helping Ankeny topple previously unbeaten Bettendorf 4-1 in a Class 4-A state quarterfinal at Rogers Sports Complex.

Cappaert hit her 13th homer of the season, a two-run shot. Kirgan followed one out later with her fourth this season.

Ankeny’s Shayla Starkenburg threw a six-hitter in the win.
