Hawkettes Move On To State Soccer Tournament

Following a win Monday night against Marshalltown, the Ankeny Hawkettes soccer team is on its way to the state tournament.

Ankeny, ranked No. 2 in the nation last week by Elite Soccer Report, improved to 19-0 with 18 shutouts following the 4-0 victory, according to the Des Moines Register.

Other teams advancing to the tournament, which will be played at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines, include Dowling Catholic, Waukee, and Johnston.

Here are Register highlights from the other advancing CIML teams:

Payton Thompson scored twice for Johnston (16-3) in a 5-1 win over visiting Fort Dodge. Dowling improved to 16-2 with a 2-1 home victory over Urbandale. Waukee moved to 15-4 after defeating visiting Valley 1-0 (4-2 on penalty kicks).

Ankeny will meet Iowa City High in the Thursday quarterfinals. The game starts at 5:30 p.m.
