Hawks Baseball Team Defeats Fort Dodge, Advances to State Tournament

The Hawks will play Clinton next week in the quarterfinals.

The Ankeny Hawks baseball team will be making a play for the Class 4A state championship after defeating Fort Dodge in the substate finals Wednesday night.

Fort Dodge fell to the Hawks 1-0, according to the Des Moines Register. Ankeny (34-7) advanced to the state baseball tournament for the seventh time in 10 seasons under coach Mark Hey, the article said.


The Hawks join the AHS softball team, which is also making a run for the state title. The Hawkettes take on Dowling tonight in the Class 5A semifinals. The game starts at 7 p.m. in Fort Dodge.

The Hawks will take on Clinton (25-14) on July 31 at 8 p.m. The game will be played at Principal Park in Des Moines.
