UPDATE: Ankeny Hawks Clobber Sioux City East, 45-14

The Hawks move on to host Southeast Polk on Friday in the Class 4A state quarterfinals.

It's on to the quarterfinals for the Ankeny Hawks.

In round two of the Class 4A state playoffs, the fifth-ranked Hawks (10-1) flew past Sioux City East 45-14 during last night's game at Ankeny Stadium.

Joel Lanning, a junior, accounted for 288 total yards and five touchdowns, said an article by the Des Moines Register. Ankeny ran away with the first half, outgaining the Black Raiders (5-6) by a 360-73 margin while building a 38-7 lead, the article said.

The Hawks will move on to the third game in Class 4A action. They are scheduled to host Southeast Polk (10-1) at 7 p.m. on Friday following the Rams' 60-20 victory over Marshalltown.

Southeast Polk's only loss of the season was dealt by Ankeny on Sept. 9 when .

The fifth-ranked Ankeny Hawks will continue their quest for the Class 4A state title tonight when they host Sioux City East at Ankeny Stadium.

Ankeny has outscored its last three opponents 134-13. Last week, the 9-1 Hawks had no trouble in their first-round game against Fort Dodge, trouncing the Dodgers 54-0. 

Sioux City East (5-5) is coming off a surprising upset of Waukee (6-4) last Wednesday in which the Black Raiders clinched the game in a 24-6 victory. The two teams previously collided in week two of the season, a match-up won by the Warriors.

Kickoff tonight is at 7 p.m.

Tonight's other scheduled match-ups in Ankeny's bracket include Marshalltown (8-2) at Southeast Polk (9-1), Dowling Catholic (8-2) at Des Moines Lincoln (9-1) and Urbandale (6-4) at West Des Moines Valley (10-0).
