Hy-Vee Begins Construction on Second Ankeny Store
Work on the store, located in Ankeny's Prairie Trail development, will start this winter and will likely open in late 2013.

Hy-Vee has officially started construction on its second Ankeny store.
The 92,000 square-foot store will be located at the corner of Southwest Oralabor Road and State Street, in Ankeny's Prairie Trail development. Andy McCann, senior vice president of store development for Hy-Vee, Inc., said in a news release issued by the company the store has been part of Hy-Vee’s development plans for several years, and the time is now right to proceed with building.
“The Prairie Trail site is a great location for us, and will be especially convenient for residents in the southern and western areas of Ankeny and those commuting here for work or school,” McCann said in the release.

The new Hy-Vee will be similar in size and amenities to the store the company opened in Urbandale last August, as well as the one currently under construction in Waukee.
It will include a full-service restaurant and bar serving wine and beer in the evenings; a food court featuring a sushi bar, wood-fired pizza, Chinese buffet, authentic gelato and Chef’s Creations take-home entrees; a Starbucks coffee outlet; a large HealthMarket offering natural and organic foods; a pharmacy with drive-up service; and specialty departments for wine and spirits, domestic and imported cheeses, bulk foods, fresh seafood, housewares, cosmetics and personal care products, pet supplies and more.
