Iowa High School Girls Basketball State Tournament Results: Ankeny, Southeast Polk Meet in Class 5A Girls State Basketball Semifinals

Who came out on top – Ankeny or Southeast Polk?

A shot at the first-ever Class 5A girls basketball state title came to an end for the Ankeny Hawkettes Friday morning.

No. 2 Ankeny fell to Southeast Polk, 40-38, in the semifinal game, keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the very end.

The loss ends Ankeny's 2012-13 season with a 20-5 record, and marks the district's final girls basketball game as a single team before Ankeny Centennial High School opens this fall. The Hawkettes have won nine state championships.

Ankeny's Jaali Winters led the Hawkettes with 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. Brittany Hedrick added 13 points and Madi Robson scored six.
