Iowa Primary Election 2012: What Ankeny Residents Need to Know Before Heading to the Polls

Tomorrow marks the state's primary election in which voters will head to the polls to decide who will be on the November general election ballot.

What races affect Ankeny residents this year?

Although several will appear on the ballot, there are only two contested races in this year's primary. Those races involve Republican candidates running for Iowa House of Representatives District 37 and District 38.

Who are the candidates in those two races?

There are two candidates running for Iowa House District 38. Those candidates are current Rep. Kevin Koester and challenger Brett Nelson. Whoever wins the primary election will go up against unopposed Democratic candidate John Phoenix in November.

Six individuals make up the pool of candidates for District 37, including Jacob Mason, Stacey Rogers, Jim Robidoux, Jeff Wright, Matt DeVries and John Landon. Whoever wins the primary will go up against unopposed Democrat candidate Neal Tracy in November.

How do I know what district I'm voting for?

Both District 37 and 38 encompass parts of Ankeny, so it all comes down to which polling location at which you're required to vote.

Ankeny is comprised of 15 voting precincts. If you live in precincts 1-5 or 10-13, you will vote for District 37. If you live in precincts 6-9 or 14-15, you will vote for District 38.
