Last-Minute Shopping for School Supplies?

The Ankeny Community School District will welcome students back to the halls of its schools on Monday, Aug. 15.

Whether students will be attending class in a new or exisiting building, it's important each student be prepared with the proper supplies.

If you're waiting until the last minute to go school-supply shopping, have no fear - the district has a complete K-12 list of required school supplies for all students on its website.

Where to Find the Good Deals on School Supplies

There are always perks to procrastination - in other words, now is the time when retailers are rolling out the best deals!

Here's a list of some places in Ankeny with exceptional back-to-school bargains:

• Staples is offering a Back to School Savings Pass to its shoppers, For $10, you can get 15 percent off all school supplies through Sept. 17. This includes calculators, backpacks, binders and paper.

• Other deals include 10-cent composition books, 50-cent scissors and 50 percent off all High Sierra backpacks. There are also many buy-one-get-one deals on 3-ring binders.

• Target.com is offering 20 percent off when you spend $75 or more on select clothing, shoes and accessories.

• In-store savings include $1 Five Star notebooks, Sharpies and Post-It notes, as well as 50-cent crayons, markers, pencil boxes and pockets folders. Target also has character backpacks for $9.

3) Walmart, 1002 SE National Dr.

• Looking to fill your child's closet with the latest fashions? Walmart has great deals on apparel with boys clothing starting at $8, girls clothing starting at $6 and shoes starting at $4.

• Walmart also is the place for those who like to buy in bulk. The store has a 24-count box of pencils for $6.09 and a 4-pack of Fiskars kids scissors for $6.

• Dollar General has most of your back-to-school basics on sale including $1.25 one-subject notebooks, $1.50 color binders and 50-cent pencil boxes. DG also has $1 packages of markers and colored pencils.
