Man Involved in Fourth of July Stabbing Still At-Large
Police are searching for an Ankeny man who allegedly stabbed another man in the chest.

Police are looking for a man who allegedly stabbed another man in the chest during an incident at an Ankeny trailer court.
Capt. Joe Schaffer of the said an arrest warrant was issued for John H. Hews, 26, of Ankeny after police responded to a report of a fight at 2301 SW Oralabor Rd. at approximately 5:20 p.m. Monday afternoon.
They found 32-year-old Michael Kelsey sitting in a chair with a small stab wound to his chest. He also had cuts on his head and arm, Schaffer said.

Schaffer said Kelsey had gotten into an altercation with Hews – his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend - when they came to Kelsey’s residence for a custody exchange. Kelsey and his ex-girlfriend have a daughter together.
Schaffer said the two men have a history of disputes but he is not sure why this escalated to physical violence.

Hews fled the scene following the altercation, leaving his girlfriend and her daughter behind. Although Hews has yet to be located, his girlfriend and her daughter are safe, Schaffer said.
Kelsey was treated and released at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
