Mom Warned About Leaving Kids in a Van: Ankeny Police Blotter

Charges filed range from theft of copper and a construction trailer to drug possession.

Sept. 4

Employees reported the theft of about 260 feet of copper valued at $400 from a construction trailer parked at the site of a new Kum & Go store, 3603 Otter View Circle. A black 24-foot construction trailer with vehicle ramps was also taken, value unknown.

Sept. 5

A mother was warned by police after a caller said that the woman had left four children in a van at 111 N.W. Ninth St. The caller said the kids were in the locked vehicle for half an hour; police checked at the business. The mother was inside with another child at an eye appointment. She said the air conditioning was on and she ran out to check on her kids every few minutes, which office staff confirmed.

Sept. 6

Leslie Stern, 45, Ankeny, was charged with OWI.

Sept. 7

Brandon Williams, 26, Des Moines, was charged with possession of narcotics and second-offense OWI.
