No. 3 Ankeny Gives Coach Jerry Pezzetti 300th Victory; Joel Lanning and Drew Carlson Lead the Way

Marshalltown no match for Ankeny.


Drew Carlson caught two touchdown passes to help No. 3-ranked Ankeny beat Marshalltown, 49-14, and earn Ankeny coach Jerry Pezzetti’s his 300th win at the program.

In all, Carlson had four catches for 143 yards, scoring on plays of 46 and 38 yards.

Ankeny’s Joel Lanning and Marshalltown’s Blake Gimbel, two of the state's top quarterbacks, combined for 716 yards and five touchdowns through the air.

Lanning went 11 of 25 throwing for 311 yards and three scores. He also ran for a touchdown.

Gimbel, who set the state single-season passing yardage record last fall, completed 42 of 61 for 405 yards and two touchdowns.

Carlson celebrated on the sidelines with his father, a trainer for the team.

Pezzetti is now 300-130-1 record at Ankeny. His overall coaching record is 358-142-1 in 50 seasons.
