Central Iowans can experience a one-of-a-kind display of nativity sets at the No Room at the Inn event held at Valley United Methodist Church in West Des Moines. Visitors will see a collection of more than 400 nativity scenes in a breathtaking, candlelit setting to mark the Advent season. While entry to this three-day event, Dec. 6-8, is free, donations are accepted and will be directed to Habitat for Humanity.

“We hope that families and people of all ages are able to stop by to see what No Room at the Inn is all about,” says Fran Watson, co-chairman of No Room at the Inn. “Christmas is such an important time of year, which is why 10 years ago we began this new tradition to call special attention to the circumstances of Jesus Christ’s birth.”

Since Valley UMC introduced No Room at the Inn in 2004, it has attracted more than 10,000 people who have donated in excess of $15,000 to Habitat for Humanity.

“The nativity sets on display range from those collected during people’s travels throughout the world, to some made by children in their Sunday School classes, and are arranged in an unforgettable setting,” says Lynda Hommer, No Room at the Inn co-chairman. “While each scene is distinctively different, together they tell the story of the birth of the Christ child. We’re so pleased to offer this unique display for the community to experience, and hope people will make a visit to No Room at the Inn a new holiday tradition.”

No Room at the Inn also includes a special area with activities for children, and provides free refreshments for attendees.

It is located on the handicap-accessible main floor of Valley UMC.
