Thanks to Mother Nature, more than 250 area kids missed out on a chance to test their athletic skills today.

The fifth annual Ankeny Youth Triathlon was canceled this morning due to bad weather.  Since 252 athletes were registered, organizers wanted to wait as long as they could before canceling the event.  

"We want to be sure we give our athletes a chance to compete, but we also want them to be safe", said David Jass, president of Triathlon Racers of Iowa.

The triathlon included swimming laps in the , biking around and run through the finish line at the track.
