PHOTOS: Ankeny Barktoberfest was a Howling Good Time

It was a good day for pooches from all over central Iowa.

Dogs could test their agility, sample special dog treats, take a dip in a wading pool or simply bask in the sun during the Ankeny Dog Park's fourth-annual Barktoberfest, held Saturday at restaurant.

Approximately 165 dogs and their owners turned out for the festivities.

Owners and their dogs also could watch demonstrations ranging from dog agility to the Des Moines-based K-9 Alliance. The event held several contests, including the best costume, smallest dog and biggest dog. Owners could also win special prizes in an event raffle.
