PHOTOS: Former 'Biggest Loser' Contestants Lead Ankeny Students in Early-Morning Workout

The event was held at Northview Middle School and was a partnership with the local non-profit organization, Cops Against Cancer. The students chosen to participate were selected were winners of an essay competition.

Twenty Ankeny students got a unique chance on Friday morning for an early-morning workout with former contestants of NBC's show "The Biggest Loser."

Students ran laps, learned new stretches and exercises and demonstrated the proper way to do a push-up in a special workout led by Rebecca Meyer and Daniel Wright, Des Moines residents and personal trainers through FitnessWrightNow, LLC in West Des Moines. The two also were contestants on "Biggest Loser" during seasons 7 and 8.

Other "Biggest Loser" contestants participating in the event were Jessica Delfs, Bernie Salazar and Shay Sollers.

In addition to the workout, the contestants got a chance to share their stories and take part in a question-and-answer session with the students. The contestants also emphasized proper nutrition and exercise as a way to prevent cancer.

“It’s so crucial to get the attention of the younger generation to teach them about the importance of fitness and nutrition in the prevention of colorectal cancer,” said Craig Phinney, founder of Cops Against Cancer. “That’s why we’ve brought in 'The Biggest Loser' alumni — to get their attention.”
