Find out the latest happenings at Ankeny's Prairie Ridge Middle School.

Students Participate in Water Quality Study

Seventh grade students from Prairie Ridge participated in a water quality pond study of Horizon pond September 11, 14 and 17.  Naturalists Patrice Petersen-Keyes, Bekah Buell and Lori Foresman-Kirpes from Polk County Conservation, assisted students with their study by helping students identify the organisms that were found in the pond and classifying them as either a high, mid or low water quality organism.  Water quality tests were performed, such as pH, nitrates and dissolved oxygen.  Students were also taught about pond food chains and food webs.  Based on the organisms found there and the water quality tests done, Horizon pond was determined to be a healthy pond.
