Semi Carrying Dozens of Cows Crashes on I-35 North of Ankeny

The accident was reported at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A semi carrying just over three dozen cows crashed on Interstate 35 north of Ankeny this morning.

According to KCCI Channel 8, the semi driver was taken to the hospital with reported non-life threatening injuries after his rig entered the ditch and crashed. The accident occurred in the northbound lanes near mile marker 99, north of the Ankeny and Elkhart exits.

About 37 cows were in truck at the time of the crash, KCCI said. Some died, others were trapped inside the truck and some escaped. The television station reported the cows could be seen running from the scene.
