Shaving Cream Painting for Kids

During the next cold spell when the kids are restless, here's a great and inexpensive art project you can use to have some good messy fun with the kids!  Children love to play with shaving cream and it's a great sensory activity for toddlers too!  Here's what you'll need:

• Muffin tin or paper cups
• Shaving cream (foam, not gel)
• Food coloring (or tempera paint, watercolors)
• Heavy paper (construction paper works well)
• Paint brushes

Squirt some shaving cream into the muffin tins. Add a little food coloring (or paint) to the shaving cream to make your desired colors. Mix the food coloring into the shaving cream with the spoon or a small paint brush. Now give the kids the paper and paint brushes and let them get creative!  Toddlers will love to use this a finger paint too!

There is lot's of room for customization and variation with this art project and this activity can easily be adapted to fit any occasion or celebration.  Use sponges for a different painting experience or put the colored shaving cream in a zip-lock bag, cut off a corner and let the kids pipe it on the paper for extra puffiness! Mix in a little glue with the paint and shaving cream for a more permanent work of art.

Your children will have hours of bliss with this activity and clean-up is very easy.  Simply rinse out the muffin tin, paint brushes and then wipe down the surface where they were painting.  The kids will clean-up easily too, just make sure you use water-based paint.  Have fun and be creative!
