Take Advantage of Iowa's 2013 Sales Tax Holiday – Donate to Operation Underwear
Give back to Ankeny schools by purchasing socks, underwear and sweatpants – all items exempt from Iowa sales tax on the holiday.

From a media release:
For the fourth year, Ankeny Kiwanis Club's initiative Operation Underwear will collect new children's underwear, socks, and sweatpants for Ankeny school nurses and social workers. All sizes are needed, and all Ankeny Community schools benefit.
Donors are encouraged to take advantage of the Iowa Sales Tax Holiday, August 2-3. Socks, underwear, and sweatpants are included in the items that are exempt from sales tax on those days.
"We hope community members who are purchasing back-to-school clothing for their children will decide to purchase one additional package of socks, for example, and donate that to Operation Underwear," said Ankeny Kiwanis Club president Shana Light.
Kirkendall Public Library will house a collection bin for donations from August 1st through September 15th; the Ankeny Community Education Office at 306 SW School Street houses a collection bin throughout the year.
Last year, a community drive brought in over 970 items, which enabled school nurses to provide socks, underwear, and sweatpants to students in need throughout the school year. Ankeny Kiwanis members hope that this Operation Underwear collection will bring in enough donations to provide items to district social workers as well.
Any surplus items are donated to T.A.K.E., The Ankeny Klothing Exchange, located on the 3rd floor of the Neveln Resource Center at 406 S.W.School Street.
