This week is off to a rainy start – but how long will it stick around?
According to the National Weather Service, Ankeny could be in for a wet Monday and possibly Tuesday, but the rain will eventually give way to sunny, hot days later this week.
Before looking ahead, keep an eye on the sky and the forecast today as Ankeny and the surrounding counties are under several special alerts, including a flash flood watch until 4 p.m.
Storms will likely move into the area around lunchtime, bringing with it damaging winds and the possibility of hail and an isolated tornado.Â

Tuesday:Â A 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 91. Heat index values as high as 101. Windy, with a south wind 13 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.
Wednesday:Â Mostly sunny, with a high near 91. Breezy, with a west northwest wind 9 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Thursday:Â Mostly sunny, with a high near 89.
Friday:Â Mostly sunny, with a high near 85.
This weekend should see temps dropping down a bit into the lower 80s, accompanied by mostly sunny skies.
