This Week in Ankeny Weather: What's the Forecast for Fourth of July?

A quick look at the weather for the week of July 1.

It's a holiday week, Ankeny, and you no doubt have plans to attend Independence Day picnics, parades and other activities.

But is the weather planning to cooperate?

According to the National Weather Service, things are looking promising this week, although a few days – including the Fourth of July – could see some rain. Temperatures will stay in the mid to low 80s, which – if any of you remember Fourth of July 2012 – is a bit more forgiving than the heat we saw last year for the holiday.

Here's a peek at the details of this week's forecast:

Tuesday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 79. North northeast wind 3 to 8 mph.

Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. Calm wind becoming north northeast 5 to 7 mph.

Thursday (Fourth of July): A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 80.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83.

This weekend, it appears we'll see mostly sunny skies with temps in the mid-80s,  so grab a glass of lemonade, a package of sparklers and head outside to enjoy the weather.
