[VIDEO] K-12 School Art Celebration
The Ankeny Art Center recently celebrated artwork from the Bondurant-Farrar District Schools. Over 350 students, parents, teachers and other visitors attended the event.
The Ankeny Art Center’s annual K-12 art exhibits are part of an extended outreach programming, intended to introduce and familiarize area students with the art gallery setting. Familiarizing students with the gallery helps to enhance the individual self-worth of students within the community, increase their community involvement, while promoting culture and diversity. Likewise, this special opportunity gives students some valuable insight about what it is like to become an exhibiting artist.
The Ankeny Art Center began hosting the K-12 Art Exhibit at the Ankeny Chamber of Commerce in the early 1980’s for the Ankeny School district. The first Ankeny K-12 show was originally held at the Kirkendall Public Library for many years until the Ankeny Art Center moved into their current building across from John Deer in 2001. The move gave the Ankeny Art Center a larger exhibit space and surrounding area school districts were invited to also contribute student art work. The Bondurant-Farrar School District began exhibiting a little over five years ago, and North Polk Community School District shortly before then.
Over 350 visitors attended the annual Bondurant-Farrar School District celebration and reception on Thursday evening (February 6). Young art students and their teachers met with parents, relatives, friends and other visitors during the show. If you missed the reception, the Bondurant-Farrar K-12 art exhibit will be on display in the Ankeny Art Center's gallery until March 1st!
