Watch This: Ankeny Fire Department Conducts Hazardous Materials Training
The coordinated training exercise happened in real time at Ankeny's water treatment plant.
In March 2013, the Ankeny Fire Department partnered with the City of Des Moines' hazardous materials team for a three-day training period.
The coordinated training exercise happened in real time and involved a 100-pound cylinder of chlorine offloaded at Ankeny's water treatment plant, located at 6384 N.E. 22nd St., creating a hazardous materials incident. Teams worked to mitigate the incident, including the rescue of a victim and manipulation of valves on the cylinder.
A total of 70 fire department personnel were involved in the training.
