What's Open, What's Closed on July 4 in Ankeny

You can shop and eat and play, but you can't bank, ride the bus, or mail a letter.

SummerFest may be the equivalent of Ankeny's Fourth of July, but that obviously doesn't mean the Fourth isn't observed like any other holiday in town.

Many businesses and most public offices and services will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, in Ankeny and the metro area.

  • No trash or recycling will be collected on Wednesday. Wednesday collections will move to Thursday and Thursday collections will move to Friday.
  • DART buses will not run on July 4.
  • Most banks will be closed. Wednesday is a U.S. bank holiday.
  • Polk County offices are closed; including county courts, the county Health Department and the county treasurer's office.
  • Iowa State offices are closed; including all , the Iowa Workforce Development Center and IowaWORK centers.
  • Federal offices are closed.

  • In case you get the itch to do some shopping, Merle Hay Mall in Urbandale will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Fourth, however, some stores will have extended hours. Check the mall website for specific store hours.
