Why Are US Troops Not Allowed To Be Armed On Military Bases?
We trust troops to protect our country, but not themselves?

With the massacres on military bases like the Navy Yard on Monday and Fort Hood in 2009, we see people who have intent to do harm bring weapons onto a US military installation and murder people. The troops on those installations are not allowed to be armed to be able to carry loaded weapons. Why? We spend millions training them and equipping them and task them with protecting our country. Why can we not trust them to be armed?
The reason it's not allowed is that in 1992, under President George H.W. Bush, a directive was put in place to make that happen. We train them on weapon safety, we ask them to protect our country. It's time to allow our troops to be armed so they can protect themselves.
