Winter Storm Draco: Will Ankeny Schools be Holding Classes Thursday?

Schools across the Des Moines metro are cancelling classes as the season's first winter storm hands our area a beating.

Shut off those alarm clocks and climb back into your pajamas – there will be no school for Ankeny students on Thursday.

The district cancelled classes Wednesday night due to Winter Storm Draco bearing down on our area. Ankeny Christian Academy has also cancelled classes for Thursday.

In addition to classes in the Ankeny school district, the following activities have also been cancelled:

  • No before and after-school YMCA progams at the schools.
  • All athletics and activities are postponed.
  • No drivers’ education.
  • SOS at the high school is cancelled.
  • All Community Education classes are cancelled.

Severe winter weather will continue in our area through Thursday. According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, snow and blowing snow are expected until about noon. Blowing snow will continue with gusts nearing 48 mph. Temperatures will fall to around 18 by 5 p.m. with wind chill values as low as zero.
