• Atlantic's Starting Quarterback Spot is Still Up in the Air (westerniowatoday.com) — Atlantic football fans will soon learn whether senior Brandon Wagner or sophomore James Brauer gets the starting quarterback job before Friday's season opener at Glenwood. Head Coach Joe Brummer says the staff is still evaluating after a Shenandoah scrimmage, and local listeners can catch the Trojans' game on KS95-7 FM or via livestream.
• Cash Grain August 24, 2026 (westerniowatoday.com) — Farmers around Atlantic can check today's cash grain bids for Landus Coop and Elite Octane in town, along with prices at nearby elevators across southwest Iowa and eastern Nebraska. Corn and soybean bids for August and October are listed by location, with a reminder that prices can change without notice.
• Atlantic's Glen Smith Sworn In as USDA Under Secretary for Rural Development (westerniowatoday.com) — Atlantic farmer and businessman Glen Smith has been sworn in as the USDA's Under Secretary for Rural Development, a role overseeing major grant and loan programs that include an office right here in Cass County. Smith, who moved back to Atlantic in 1982 to grow his family farm and ag business, says he's eager to support rural communities nationwide while staying connected to western Iowa agriculture.
