Prep volleyball: BHS celebrates Senior Night with sweep of Mount Pleasant (mississippivalleypublishing.com) — Burlington High School's volleyball team gave local fans a strong Senior Night, sweeping conference rival Mount Pleasant in straight sets on Don Gibbs Court at Johannsen Gymnasium. With seniors leading in kills, digs, and aces, BHS improved to 18-11 overall and 5-0 in the Southeast Conference, heading next into the conference tournament at Fairfield.
   

3. Area events slated for domestic violence month (pencitycurrent.com) — Burlington residents can join Domestic Violence Awareness Month events, including a Shop for Safety donation drive at local Hy-Vee and Fareway stores on October 9 and a Clothesline Project display in town on October 13. Organized by DVIP/RVAP, these activities support victim-survivors across southeast Iowa and highlight ways locals can donate supplies, learn more, and stand in solidarity.
   

4. Southeastern Iowa residents, leaders welcome potential economic impact of steel plant (wqad.com) — A massive new Mesabi Metallics steel plant in nearby Wever is expected to bring thousands of construction jobs and 1,750 permanent positions to southeast Iowa, with Burlington residents likely filling many of them. Burlington Mayor Jon Billups says the project rewards the region's strong workforce reputation and could boost local housing, families staying in the area, and broader economic activity for years to come.
